I have not been to a wedding in years and when I recently went to one I was really surprised at all the details that they had there. In my day it was just a simple ceremony at the local church and then back to the local pub for some food and maybe dancing. However, things seem to be very different these days. Weddings in expensive hotels or other fancy venues, receptions on boats or in marquees and then all the details, wedding bubbles instead of confetti, decorations, favor boxes, table confetti, balloons, wedding cars and everything else. There certainly seems to be a showing off element which there never was in my day, back then it was all about making the commitment in front of family and friends rather than breaking the bank to have a better party than everyone else. It is nice to celebrate in style but I do think that many people have forgotten what the real meaning of a wedding is and all of the sentiment and romance seems to have been lost and replaced with stress and bankruptcy!
