Web hosting occurs when your website is serviced by a company that has computers that are hooked up to the Internet on a 24 hour a day, seven day a week basis. These computers are called servers. The servers hold all of your website files. The servers have IP numbers so that they can be found by other computers.

There are two types of web hosting, free hosting or paid hosting. For many reasons, a free service is not the way to go for many individuals and businesses.

If you choose to go with a free service, you will be faced with banner ads and other types of advertisements. It cost hosting companies money to set up and maintain all the various websites it hosts. If they are not charging money for the service, they need to get their money from some other resource. That resource is the use of advertisements.
